From Undervalued Freelancer to a Business Rooted in Passion and Purpose
Welcome! I am so excited about this very first episode of the Create Connect Convert Podcast. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m a true believer that everything happens when it needs to happen.
This first episode is a little different as I want to welcome you, dear listener, and thank you for tuning in and letting me into your earbuds. Podcasting is one of the most intimate ways of connecting with an audience (except for real life, of course) and it’s an honour and privilege for me to be able to share value with you in this way. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I wouldn’t imagine that every single person who listens to the Create Connect Convert Podcast knows me already, so I’m taking this opportunity to share with you my story. My story from how I quit my secure 9-5 as a Brand Executive for a consultancy in London without a back-up plan…
… without any idea of who I wanted to be!
But what truly saved me is that I knew very well from the beginning what I wanted from this life. And that’s the fact that I wanted to be valuable and be free to create.
I had no idea that I will end up doing what I am today – being a brand strategy, web designer, impacting fellow entrepreneurs and empowering them to create a business of their dreams. That’s my dream!
But the journey to where I am today hasn’t been an easy one. It was rocky and bumpy, and I had to dig deep to find the answers and to find myself!
In fact, here’s a quick recap of the 3 things that I share in this episode that helped me find clarity and what my purpose is.
1. Write down what are the things you do well and you love doing
If you’re gonna be running your own business – you gotta enjoy it! If you’re doing this only for the financial benefit then you’re not gonna go too far. Yes, your business needs to bring in the $$$ but it’s so much easier to put in the hard work when you love what you do.
2. Ask those around you about what your true strengths are
Whether it’s past clients of simply friends and family – ask people what they think your best strengths and qualities are. If I didn’t take the initiative to speak to some past clients, I would probably be searching for myself. The truth is, we often overlook the great things we do and the value we bring; but those around you… trust me, they notice!
3. Focus on your own journey
… rather than on what other people are doing! Impostor syndrome held me back for way too long! And yes, I’m still guilty of it sometimes, but I won’t let it stop me from writing my own story anymore.
There’s this great quote by Denis Waitley: “It’s not what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you are not.” So I encourage you to stop holding back and comparing yourself to others and, instead, focus your energy into creating and writing your own journey!
