Whether you’ve DIY-ed your brand or you’ve already worked with a
designer in the past, at some point or another, you get this “moment of truth” when you realise that your brand just isn’t working for you anymore.
And then the big question hits you: “Is it time to rebrand?”
I went through this myself a couple of times throughout the years (after all, I help my clients do this all the time, so you can imagine how easy it was to constantly think about branding my own business)!
In fact, when I was just starting out in my first year or so, I changed my branding every 4-6 months because my business was constantly changing – and I wanted my brand to reflect that.
Rebranding your business can be really exciting and inspiring for you as a business owner, and also for your customers! Why? Because it can reignite that spark within you, realign your business goals and your values, and uplift your business in a whole new way – and all of this is communicated to your customers via your brand.
So in this blog post, I wanna share the 3 signs that you should look for, to see if your business is ready and in need for a rebrand!
When I just started out, I positioned myself as a graphic designer. And, as a result, I did quite a lot of odd graphic jobs here and there, and a lottttt of illustration work. My branding was minimal, yet artsy, and my website was just a portfolio of my graphic work.
Would that type of branding work with my current offerings and clients? Definitely not.
You and your business evolve over time.
And that’s just inevitable! Your business goals, your offering, values, and even your target audience may change year on year.
And it’s important to take a step back and ask yourself:
Does my current brand align with my business goals and values?
Does it reflect my mission and what my business stands for?
Does my branding match the quality and price point of my products/services?
If you answered NO or NOT SURE to any of these, then it may be time to start thinking about rebranding your business to align with where you’re currently at.
So the question you need to ask yourself here is: “Has my business evolved from when I first started?”
Similar to the previous point, you want to ensure your branding is aligned with your target audience.
If you’re struggling to connect with your Ideal Client and you only hear crickets in your inbox, then maybe you need to go back to the drawing board and see if your branding attracts the type of clients you want to book.
Similarly, if your business has evolved, maybe you want to connect with a different type of audience. Take a moment to reflect on this and figure out whether your current branding will be able to attract this new audience.
Will it work with or against you?
For example, I had a client that wanted to expand her consulting services to corporate clients. For years, she has been coaching female entrepreneurs who run successful businesses. Then, she wanted to target a different type of audience – but with a brand that looked very elegant, feminine and slightly DIY.
(Not the best look, if you want to pitch big corporations as a sales consultant).
So, we rebranded her business to attract not just female entrepreneurs, but also to larger corporate businesses. We still kept a touch of femininity but with a must more professional, bespoke look.
The result? Even though she kept being turned down for months beforehand, after we launched her rebranded website – she booked her first corporate client just 3 weeks!
Not only did she gain a new type of clients, but she also a huge amount of self-confidence and pride in her work!
This is what happens when you’re 100% intentional with your brand and who you’re targeting.
So, friend, is your branding in alignment with your current Ideal Client Avatar? Or are you appealing to an audience you no longer wish to focus on?
This one is more of an intuitive sign.
If you’ve ever said:
“Oh, we’re currently updating our website”,
Or
“Don’t mind the look of our current site”, and cringed when someone asked for your business card or social media links – then it’s time to rebrand and get rid of that brand shame!
By the way… “brand shame” is nothing to be ashamed about (ironically)!
The reason why you’re feeling embarrassed of your current branding is probably because you simply outgrew it. And that’s good! It means you’ve progressed, became better, and you know your business deserves more.
I like to think of “brand shame” as a sign of growth and progress, and again, this is nothing to be ashamed of!
In fact, one of my client’s had the same branding for over 12 years – and I remember her telling me on our first call together – “Honestly, I’m just so ashamed of my brand, that I was even too nervous to contact you!”
Can you imagine that? Feeling stuck with a misaligned brand for that long, and having resistance to reach out to someone to make a change?
I don’t want you to wait this long, my friend.
So if any of these 3 signs resonate with you right now, then you’ll know in your heart that it’s time to invest into a rebrand!
By not rebranding your business right now? Believe it or not, you may actually be hurting it.
Your business is a reflection of you, and if you continually operate from a place of “brand shame” – your prospects will feel it because you’re unknowingly giving out that energy when you speak with them.
So while rebranding is an investment, choosing to commit to it will allow yourself the room for your business to grow even further, stronger and bigger!
And that’s what I want for you, my friend!
So there you have it, 3 signs that your business is ready for a rebrand!
